Newborn Hip Ultrasound

Newborn Hip Ultrasound
Infant hip ultrasound is recommended for all newborns and is normally performed at around one month of age. It assesses whether the hip joints are mature for the baby's age and whether the femoral head sits properly within the hip socket.
Only rarely is treatment required due to an immature hip, for example using a Tübingen hip flexion splint. Depending on the severity of a hip deformity, other treatment options may also be considered. With early detection and appropriate treatment, the hip usually matures within a few weeks and the prognosis is very good.
